Google will now tell you which of your Instagram posts actually get found

Google Search Console can now show you which of your Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or X posts get found through Google Search, even without a website.

Google will now tell you which of your Instagram posts

A guy who details cars out of a garage off Rangeline Road in Carmel showed me his phone last week. He typed "ceramic coating near me" into Google. Three results down, past two competitors' websites, sat a fifteen-second video from his own TikTok. He never uploaded that video to Google. He did not know Google could find it there at all.

That is the story behind a change Google shipped on July 7, 2026. Search Console, the free tool Google gives every website owner to see what search terms bring in visitors, now does the same thing for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and X accounts, even if you never built a website. Google calls it a platform property. It is the first time a shop owner can see, in real numbers, which of their social posts get found through Google search.

What is a platform property, in plain English?

A platform property is a version of Search Console that watches one social account instead of one website. Connect your Instagram or TikTok and Google shows you which search terms led people to your posts, and how often that happened over the last 28 days.

Before this month, that data did not exist anywhere you could see it. Instagram shows you likes and comments. It has never shown you whether someone typed "tailor alterations same day" into Google and landed on your reel about hemming pants. Now you can find that out.

How do you turn one on?

Report What it shows you
Performance Clicks, impressions, and the exact search terms tied to your posts
Insights Which recent posts are pulling traffic, and how people are finding your account
Achievements Milestones, like crossing a new click total in a 28-day window

Setup runs through Search Console the same way you add a website. Open Search Console, hit "Add property," pick Instagram, TikTok, X, or YouTube instead of a URL, and authorize the connection. Google is rolling this out gradually over the next few weeks, so if the option is not sitting in your account yet, that is normal. Check back in a few weeks rather than assuming something broke.

What do you actually do with the data?

Once your Performance report has a few weeks of numbers, read the search terms Google logged. Do not skim past them assuming you already know what they say.

A used bookstore in Zionsville I talked to this spring posts a short video most Saturdays, usually just the owner talking about whatever came in that week. I would bet the terms that lead people to those videos through Search look nothing like what the owner would guess sitting at the counter. That gap between what you assume people search and what they actually search is the entire value of this report.

Once you have five or six real search terms, use them. Put the exact phrase in your next caption. Say it out loud in the first few seconds of your next video. If a term keeps showing up that you have never once mentioned on your website, add a page for it. The caption alone will not carry that weight.

One honest caveat: this is new, the sample size on any single account will be small for a while, and Google has walked back social-search features before. The first month of numbers is early. Read it as a hint and keep watching.

The car detailer in Carmel still has not built a website. For years that felt like the whole problem. It might not be anymore.
