Klaviyo can make your old email template editable
Klaviyo's October 2026 update lets owners convert coded email templates into editable copies; test one promotion and its booking link before measuring the time saved.
Changing "October 24" to "October 31" in an email should take less time than asking someone else to do it.
If you use Klaviyo and still pay for small edits to an old email design, try one template this week. On October 14, 2026, Klaviyo announced a way to convert saved HTML emails into editable templates. HTML is the code behind the layout. After conversion, you can work with blocks of text and pictures in the visual editor.
I judge this update by the minutes you save preparing your next promotion. You still need to check the message before customers receive it.
Can I edit my old Klaviyo email without code?
Klaviyo's conversion guide starts in Content > Templates > Email: saved. Open the menu on an HTML template and choose Clone to drag and drop. You need permission to edit templates. Klaviyo creates a separate copy and leaves your original available.
Allow a few minutes. Compare the result with the original before using it: spacing can change, and some custom features may not carry over. If you already edit the email by clicking its text blocks, you can skip this conversion.
Picture a dance studio in Plainfield promoting a four-week beginner class. The owner needs to change the start date and registration button without disturbing the studio logo. I would try those two edits in a copy, then ask the person who handles enrollment to repeat them without help.
What should I check before sending?
Start with the amount a customer will pay. In the studio example, suppose the four-week class costs $80. Check that the email and registration page both say $80 for the whole course. A customer should not have to guess whether you mean per week.
Klaviyo's preview and testing guide recommends checking desktop and mobile layouts, then sending a test to your own inbox. If you insert a customer's name, preview with a real profile. Check the fallback for a missing name too.
Open the received email on your phone. Tap the registration button. Follow the booking process using your site's test procedure, and check the confirmation screen. Fernie covered the confirmation page owners often overlook; use that check before inviting 500 people to book.
Use a small internal live test for unsubscribe behavior and other links that depend on the actual send. Klaviyo cautions that previews do not reproduce all send-time behavior. Keep that test audience separate from your customer list.
Now picture a bicycle repair shop in Brownsburg advertising a $65 winter tune-up. An owner could update the email price and leave the button pointing to last spring's offer. Check the service description on the destination page, including what the tune-up covers and how customers arrange a drop-off.
Both businesses are examples, not reported client results. The same destination check applies to the returning-customer offers I covered in Klaviyo's forms update. A customer should arrive at the offer they chose.
How much time would make this worthwhile?
Time your next edit from opening the template to approving the test email. Include the checking time. Suppose you get these results across four promotions a month:
| Work | Old process | Editable copy |
|---|---|---|
| Edit and check one promotion | 35 minutes | 15 minutes |
| Prepare four promotions | 140 minutes | 60 minutes |
| Time recovered each month | 0 minutes | 80 minutes |
Those are example timings. If converting and checking the first template takes an hour, you would recover that setup time within a month at this pace. Measure your own result before converting the rest.
Count the time you spend checking the email and its booking page before you call the new process faster.
If the email takes 15 minutes but fixing the booking page takes another 45, include both. We explain our website work on the services page; bring the broken step you found if you need help fixing it.
Keep one tested copy ready for the next promotion. Give it a name your front-desk colleague will recognize on a busy Thursday.
